Sam Helmick has served as an Iowa library worker for over fifteen years. As Iowa City Public Library’s Community & Access Services Coordinator since, Sam is responsible for the teams which provide Help Desk, Bookmobile, as well as Public Relations and Marketing services to the community.
Sam is the immediate past president of the Iowa Library Association and served during a year when the state experienced the second most library adverse bills in the nation and two intellectual freedom lawsuits.
Sam is President-Elect of the American Library Association and speaks internationally on topics related to advocacy, intellectual freedom, social marketing, outreach, wellness, and library fundraising.
21CLHK since 2009 has had a long association with the library community, especially in international schools in Asia Pacific. Since 2018 we have hosted a focused library event as a pre-conference to the face-to-face conference, and since 2021 as a hybrid event alongside the online 21CLHK event.
