Why Diversity Matters in School Library Collections & Curriculum Texts

Leadership Diversity & Social Justice
March 2024 - 21CLHK

“Why Diversity Matters in Library Collections, Diversifying & What to do with Books with Misrepresentation” will reveal inequities in the English-language publishing industry and how that translates into the books we see on international school library shelves. The presentation will also share why representation and diversity matter in school library collections, how librarians can evaluate and de-center whiteness, and what schools can do with books with misrepresentation. School libraries can be agents of social change and this talk can share first-hand examples of what can be done to de-center whiteness, diversify collections for more representation, and foster a wider sense of belonging in a school community.
