Thinking Behind The Numbers: Data Literate Leaders Moving Schools Forward

November 2021

Data is an increasingly powerful tool in decision-making and goal setting. With this in mind, education leaders need to be aware of the capabilities of well collected, secure data to improve outcomes for all students. This session will explore the various and complex considerations that leaders face when engaging their teams in exploring and analyzing student and school data. In this hour, we will define data literacy for school leaders and discuss how we can work with our teams to collect data, work with data, and communicate data so that we can gain a better understanding of the factors that influence student achievement, engagement and overall school operations. When senior school leaders work with middle leaders and teacher teams to promote this data mindset, we can better understand our progress and impact on student outcomes and shape clear directions forward in strategic planning.
