The Use of Design-based Approach for STEAM Education and Its Effectiveness on Higher-Order Thinking Skills

January 2021

The design-based approach of STEAM education is a process of knowledge construction, which transforms an idea into a practical solution that solves a real-world problem. Our teachers act like educational designers to design experience for our students to bring their creativity to life and develop their higher-order thinking skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.

In this presentation, I would like to share some of our STEAM projects in both elementary and middle schools to indicate how we integrate the STEAM education across the curriculum with the applicable transdisciplinary themes and create opportunities for our students to deliver innovative student-driven outcomes.
