Affinity spaces for LGBTQ+ students, often called GSA’s (short for genders and sexualities alliance), are a time-honored way to include LGBTQ+ children in international schools. These groups are usually student-led, with support from faculty advisors, and provide a safer space for LGBTQ+ children to connect and support one another. This session will provide a bit of background on affinity groups for LGBTQ+ students, tips to be an effective faculty advisor, as well as what researchers have uncovered about what GSA’s actually do for schools, and why their power may be stronger than you think.
