The Digital Divide: How Technology Shapes Boys and Girls Differently

Education Technology Leadership Diversity & Social Justice Wellness - School Data in Education
February 2025 - 21CLHK

This isn’t a talk about the best AI apps or alarms over screen time—it’s a deep dive into the forces shaping our Gen Z children in an era where technology is as much a tool as it is a social actor. In this session, we unpack the research around dark patterns in algorithms, including how they exploit social comparison and foster artificial connections—trends that are increasingly exacerbated by artificial intelligence. Together, we rethink how, as educators and schools, we can guide our students through this digital storm. This is a call to action—not to reject technology, but to better understand its gendered effects and ensure it becomes a force for balance, growth, and empowerment in the lives of our children.
