STEAM through Programming: Creating Interactive Games with Scratch

The rise of screen time has led to a decline in physical activity among young people. This hands-on workshop addresses this concern by exploring the exciting world of Scratch programming, where teachers or educators could help their students create fun and engaging computer games that get them moving! Participants will learn how to utilize Scratch and its Video Sensing extension to design games controlled by body movements and gestures.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the workshop, teachers will be able to:

  • Confidently utilize Scratch and its video sensing extension to create interactive games.
  • Apply the basic programming concepts like looping, conditions, and functions
  • Design engaging computer games that incorporate body movements and gestures as game controls.
