Want a fast-paced, hands-on workshop to make sense of some of the big challenges facing your profession? One that drives you to do your very best thinking, generates deep and memorable conversation, and also happens to be a lot of genuine, playful fun?
LEGO Serious Play is a powerful (and playful!) method for harnessing the full range of expertise and perspectives on your team to solve complex problems. It helps your people to embrace complexity, communicate powerfully, and better exercise their creativity. Every participant gets to approach the ideas at hand from a cognitive starting point that resonates for them, be drawn to consider them from multiple perspectives, then bring them to conversation in a way that levels the playing field of personality, experience, tenure, and standing group dynamics.
It excels in the face of a complex conversation that doesn’t have any straight answers – amongst adults that’s things like strategic planning, coaching, community consultation, culture-by-design, and amongst young people it’s things like epistemology, perspective-taking, cognitive flexibility and ideation… all things that need an intentional hand and our attention, but they’re so often obscured and made difficult by layers of assumptions and traditions, and that’s even before you get to the tragedy of “it is what it is” with group dynamics.
This workshop is ideal for people who run meetings, for people who love wrangling with big ideas, and for anyone who’s ever watched a group of four year olds and thought “maybe they’re onto something.”
You’ll walk away from this session with two things.
First, you’ll have had a chance to explore some big picture ideas about education in the world today with your peers and colleagues, using the LEGO Serious Play method.
Second (and most importantly), you’ll take away some insights on how you might activate and make the most of all of the creative potential in your school through authentic, courageous communication surrounding the big decisions.
(You’ll also have a lot of fun.)
