Many international schools across the globe aspire to facilitate learning that cultivates graduates who are “global citizens and change makers.”. Sadly, often absent in that pursuit, is the intentional practice of equity, inclusion, and justice. In his fight against white supremacy, James Baldwin said, “not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.” This learning experience will provide participants the opportunity to face and deeply examine how the international schooling community can and must confront the colonial roots in our history and challenge the ways in which global citizenship education upholds hierarchies of white supremacy and continued injustice.

Together, we will use research based frameworks to build an understanding of how we can radically reimagine and transform our global citizenship education to challenge the ways western imperialism is embedded in the practice, honor local communities, and uplift staff and students of all ethnicities, races and diverse identities.
