Embedding Oracy In The DNA Of A School: an interactive workshop exploring what Oracy is, why it’s so important and how we embed into all areas of our school.

January 2021
The term oracy was coined, formed by an analogy from literacy and numeracy. The purpose is to draw attention to the neglect of oral skills in education and raise the value of learning to, and through talk. School 21 was founded with the core purpose of teaching students to ‘find their voice, both literally and metaphorically’.

Daniel will take attendees through the school’s journey with oracy from it’s development, working with Cambridge university right through to the current national and global context asking some of the big questions about the future of an oracy education. Using oracy strategies to interact and engage with what oracy actually looks like in practical terms and some of the frameworks and toolkits we use to embed across the curriculum as well as how it weaves its way into the DNA of the school and is in everything we do from assemblies, to meetings to parent engagement.
