Schools can no longer afford to ignore cyber security by assuming that installing a firewall will be sufficient to protect the data of the school community. Given the dramatic increase in technology usage in the past two years, schools must begin to make cyber security a priority part of their practice, as well as a part of their curriculum. In this presentation we will cover some background information on the types of cyber security threats schools could face and will identify areas of greatest vulnerability. We will discuss some beginning steps that schools can take to secure their organization, including strategies for training their staff and students on how to protect themselves. We will also share ideas for including cyber security career training into the school curriculum, since the field of cyber security is currently one of the most in-demand IT professions in the world. Resources for cyber security curriculum and further training for staff will be shared.
