Over the past 3 years, PhD researcher Mark Barnett has been studying and designing AI software projects that help students understand powerful ideas in AI such as training, prediction and data bias. This workshop will introduce the concept of “Neural Syntonicity” and how it can be used to facilitate learning about Artificial Intelligence. The main focus of the workshop will be on the design-based research that Mark developed to create a learning framework that allows students to explore the uses of AI while reflecting on how the human organism behaves in similar ways.
Workshop Activities:
- Participants will be provided with a series of AI Image Recognition software tools to manipulate and tinker with to explore the relationships between AI and the human mind.
- Participants explore real-world examples of AI bias in decision-making, using interactive tools to identify and analyze different types of data bias. Participants will then brainstorm ways to mitigate bias and improve the ethical implications of AI.
- Participants will also engage in a group discussion on Powerful Ideas in AI, such as prediction, data clustering, accuracy, data bias, training, and societal impacts. They will share their thoughts and insights on these concepts, as well as any questions they may have
