November 2021
In this session, we’ll use the conceptual starting point of ‘mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors’ to interrogate our practices. We will explore approaches that draw upon ideas from culturally-responsive, culturally-sustaining, anti-racist, and identity-centred teaching. We enter the discussion with the goal of improving our practice to be more in line with the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice movements.
While the examples will be drawn from the ELA/humanities classroom, the concepts are transferable across grade levels and subjects.
This is a discussion-based session where you’ll be asked to step outside your comfort zone and think critically about the consequences of choices we make for our classrooms. Lean in, be vulnerable, and bring open minds – let’s learn together.
