Creating vibrant, supportive school communities requires a responsive, sustainable approach that meets the diverse needs of students. In this workshop, we will explore how to transform student well-being and engagement through a powerful combination of conversation, digital media, and school-wide Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) practices.
Using evidence-based strategies for assessment, classroom instruction, and community building, attendees will learn practical approaches to effectively integrate SEL into everyday school life. Participants will gain valuable insights into designing and implementing SEL programs that foster emotional intelligence, resilience, and a positive school climate.
This session will offer a virtual tour of Chicago classrooms in the Big Shoulders Fund network that exemplify these practices in action, providing real-life examples of how a school-wide approach is being used to support student growth. Attendees will learn tools to assess SEL progress and overall well-being, equipping you with the resources necessary to evaluate and refine your SEL practices.
Participants will leave with a customizable “playbook” for implementing SEL in their own school communities. This playbook will include 25 ready-to-use lessons designed to help students build social and emotional skills while nurturing a healthier, more inclusive school culture.
