The cries of teacher’s jobs being lost to artificial intelligence are simply that ‘cries’. The real treasure is hidden in the way we approach, use and understand how to leverage the intricacies of this very powerful pattern recognition system to become our personal assistants for almost every facet of our personal and professional lives.
The term Artificial Intelligence is almost a cliche at the moment given all the hullaballoo surrounding Chat GPT’s general release in December 2022. However, look over the dust clouds of the crowds shuffling and shouting ‘look what it can do!’ and we can see that there is A LOT it can do for us as teachers if we work along side it.
In this presentation, you will see how we can set up ideas for the classroom, re-imagine ALL media resources including the ones originally made for much older audiences and make it accessible to the lower age ranges, you can see how it can argue on your behalf and turn the arguments into societal or historical reasoning, create plans, assessments, rubrics, translate into any language (very accurately) and for any age range and finally, as a professional educator, you will see how we can combine other web tools and platforms to not only make our curriculum resources easier to produces by saving us hours or time, but it can assess us as teachers.
We will also understand how AI can ‘read’ the images that students create and using the prompt engineering to manipulate personas built in to the LLMs, we can use other ‘people’ to assess what the AI ‘sees’.
The final part is based on how AI assistants can listen to us in the classroom, then as the chatbot can be trained to be anyone, we can turn them into bespoke auditors of our classroom practice with rather stunning accuracy.
This session will be a very hands-on practical affair using video, transcripts and role-play of the teacher/student interaction then using AI to assess our questioning techniques by using personas in the AI language models.
The big question to answer at the end of this is: ‘How moral and ethical is this practice?’ Where are the boundaries? Is this a new phantom media where the medium does a great job of obscuring the message.
