An Interdisciplinary Design Unit: From Structure of Knowledge to Process/From Traditional tools to AR

Pedagogy & Assessment
Online Streaming

This presentation talks of the trans-disciplinary nature of Design through an example of a MYP Design Unit, a Pin-Hole Camera. We build upon the structure of knowledge (Erickson, 1995) and the structure of process (Lanning, 2012) traversing from the human eye (biology), to the movement of light (physics), to incorporating the knowledge in design making process. We further move from exploration and experimentation to making a pinhole camera prototype, then incorporating AR tools in the classroom to facilitate the final exhibition to the school community. This presentation also covers pedagogy and assessment in the unit.
