Oerestad Gymnasium The senior secondary school was founded in 2005, and current building was finished and put to use in 2007. Oerestad Gymnasium is one of the most popular gymnasiums in Denmark. The school is known for its focus on media studies and media literacy, ICT pedagogy, open learning spaces and innovative and student engaging teaching methods. In 2012 the school was 100% digital. In 2016 the school was accepted as one of two danish schools in Ashoka Changemaker Schools.
Oerestad Gymnasium Innovation Journey
Oerestad Gymnasium was predominantly designed and built as one giant classroom with a diversity of learning spaces (open and traditional). We use the learning spaces to organize student activated teaching.
From the beginning, Oerestad has had a 1:1 digital setup, and from 2012, transitioned to using only digital learning resources. Using digital media makes the student a producer of knowledge, not only a consumer. The student learn while communicating and sharing their knowledge with an authentic audience and while connecting with both the local and global community. We focus on having students work on real-life problems and on so providing a context for their academic knowledge.
Oerestad’s vision is “Tomorrow – today”. We want to listen to the echo of tomorrow and teach what will be most important in the life that the students will live in the future and we want to develop the competences that are relevant in the globalized, digitized, mediatized and interdependent world. It is also our goal to educate students on how to take responsibility to act for a sustainable world.
Oerestad wants to develop changemakers, citizens that can act for the common good. In 2016 we became the first Ashoka Changemaker school in Denmark.
The changemaker program has two key components:
The Changemaker+ program, is where we educate a large group of students to become change leaders that can act both in their class, and in the school as whole.
The Changemaker curriculum that focuses on: global citizenship, digital competences and media literacy, innovation and career learning.
