Doğan Arslanoğlu teaches art, art history, media studies, and design at Beijing National Day School; before that he was a university professor. His work begins from a conviction about attention: it is a craft to be practiced, not a resource to be demanded, and a classroom is one of the last rooms where it can be taught deliberately. His students arrange images on constellation boards until an argument appears, publish a Warburg-style book, and run their own design agency, so that knowledge is used rather than performed. When a lesson needs an instrument that does not exist, he writes it: a close reader, a constellation board, curatewith.art, where classes build their own image archives from open museum collections, and a learning management system built for teaching in an age of algorithmic attention. All of it is open source and open to collaboration. His research project, Teaching After the Feed, studies what the feed teaches and what a teacher can build in its place, on the wager that the structures of attention are still ours to design.
