Real World / MineCraft World: Cutting-Edge Pedagogy Through Gaming

Learning Spaces Leadership Student Voice Diversity & Social Justice Literacy & New Media Innovative School Profile
March 2024 - 21CLHK

I will present how teachers can incorporate cutting-edge pedagogy like International Baccalaureate, Universal Design for Learning and Culturally Sustaining Pedagogies through gaming. I will show how Game-Based Learning meets the qualifications for those pedagogies in ways that increase engagement, representation, action & expression.

I will introduce the tools I utilize to accomplish these goals including MineCraft, Pear Deck and Adobe Creative Cloud. Attendees will be taken on a journey through a unit I taught using these exact tools in the classroom – and see student’s multimedia work from the unit.

Attendees are asked to bring a device (laptop, tablet, etc.) with MineCraft for Education downloaded to the device, Attendees will take away a new purpose. One that educates our students in the world they are building for themselves today.
