In this session, Joe Dale explores how AI can promote student autonomy and creativity while giving teachers practical, multimodal workflows to enrich language learning. You’ll see how NotebookLM can transform classroom materials into audio and video overviews, quizzes, and flashcards that teachers can share with students through Google Classroom, allowing learners to explore content independently and revisit key ideas at their own pace.
We’ll explore practical oracy workflows, starting with Google Translate phrasebooks combined with natural AI voices (Luvvoice, ElevenLabs). Next, discover how teachers can create talking characters to spark speaking activities. Using Vidnoz, teachers can generate lifelike avatars to deliver listening practice, while Adobe Express Animate with Audio can be used to design cartoon-style speaking characters suitable for students aged 13+. These multimodal prompts create engaging contexts for oral language practice.
Finally, we highlight AudioPen, which allows students (13+) to dictate in one language and generate summaries in another — fostering autonomy, reflection, and cross-language skills. For teachers, AudioPen doubles as a quick productivity tool for notes, reflections, or meeting summaries.
Participants will leave with practical, classroom-ready workflows that combine innovation, student agency, and multimodal learning pathways across languages.
Note: Participants are asked to bring laptops or tablets for hands-on work.
