This presentation tells the story of a Grade 4 cohort with a big reputation, and how intentional community building transformed the narrative. Participants will explore practical strategies—like student-led routines, co-created classroom design, asset-based language, and restorative practices—that cultivate trust and belonging. Through storytelling, examples, and discussion, we will examine how centering relationships elevates student voices, enriches classroom culture, and creates spaces where children can authentically thrive.
This session highlights a shift in education: classrooms as co-created communities rather than teacher-owned spaces. Grounded in one class’s transformation, participants will explore practices that elevate student voice, culture, and identity. By centering trust and allowing students to “be weird,” we create conditions where all voices are valued, not just the dominant ones. These practices enrich classrooms by celebrating diversity as an asset, enabling every child to thrive authentically and contribute meaningfully to their world.
