Is It a Problem?: Recognizing Addiction, Knowing What to Do

March 2027 - 21CLHK

Whether it’s a colleague, a family member, or a friend, we all know someone who does something a little too much. This session is built around one question: “Is it a problem?” Work, alcohol, screens, shopping, food. So much competes for our attention that the line between “a lot” and “a problem” has gotten harder to see. This hands-on, interactive workshop teaches participants how to recognize that line when they see it, and what to do once they have.

Takeaways:

  • Recognize the signs of addiction and problematic over-consumption, distinguishing everyday use from a pattern that needs attention
  • Understand the science behind why compulsive use develops, through research and personal storytelling
  • Know what to do next: evidence-based, practical ways to support someone they care about, without shaming, rescuing, or looking away
