Learning Outcomes:
Participants will understand the Hooked Model and its four phases—Trigger, Action, Variable Reward, and Investment—for building effective classroom habits.
Participants will learn strategies to design and implement routines that foster student engagement and intrinsic motivation.
Participants will explore ethical approaches to habit formation that prioritize student autonomy, emotional safety, and academic growth.
Participants will identify ways to integrate variable rewards and student investment to create self-sustaining routines.
Participants will develop practical, actionable plans to apply the model to their school environments.
Strategies for Active Integration and Application:
To ensure participants actively integrate and apply their learning, the session will include hands-on activities such as designing a classroom routine using the Hooked Model. Participants will collaborate to develop triggers, outline simple actions, and brainstorm variable rewards tailored to their school contexts. Small group discussions will allow participants to share ideas and receive feedback. Additionally, participants will complete a personalized action plan, outlining how they will implement at least one routine in their classrooms. Reflection prompts and guided discussions will encourage participants to assess how these strategies align with their students’ needs and their school culture.
Expanding Learning on Emerging Trends:
This session introduces participants to habit-based learning design, an emerging trend that emphasizes the psychological principles of habit formation to enhance classroom routines. By focusing on student-centered strategies like personalized investment and intrinsic motivation, the session aligns with the theme Elevating Voices, Enriching Worlds by empowering students to take ownership of their learning. Participants will explore how to ethically use behavior-shaping techniques to create equitable, inclusive classroom environments.
