GenAI, the Ultimate Writing Feedback Provider? Not Quite, But…

Innovation in Education
March 2026 - 21CLHK

We know how essential regular writing practice and Assessment For and As Learning are for developing student writing skills. We know how diverse English language classrooms present challenges for teachers as they try to meet their students’ needs. And of course, we are learning that GenAI is increasingly effective at providing fast, scalable, and individualized feedback in conversational interactions with users. This workshop will open with an overview of AI as a writing tool and its relationship to writing, thinking, and assessment in schools. A practical, manageable strategy for using GenAI to augment writing instruction in ways that help students develop their writing skills while also recognizing the need to keep “humans in the loop”.
