Collective Wellbeing as a Prevention Strategy: Catching Crisis Before It Escalates

Leadership
March 2027 - 21CLHK

Most schools treat mental health support as something that activates once a crisis has already surfaced. This session makes the case for collective wellbeing as an earlier line of defense: a set of practices and structures that build shared capacity across a school community so that signs of strain (in students, teachers, and leaders) get noticed and addressed well before they become emergencies.

Drawing on consulting work with school leaders across the world and a set of firsthand stories collected from leaders who have navigated their own crisis moments, this session walks through what collective wellbeing looks like in practice: the conditions that make early detection possible, the structures that distribute responsibility for noticing beyond a single counselor or administrator, and the concrete steps schools can take to build this capacity before they need it.

This session speaks directly to the strand’s focus on prevention and connects to the broader theme of adult mental health, since leaders are often the last people in a school community whose own strain gets noticed.
