Adolescents today are navigating a world of unparalleled complexity, where motivation and performance are shaped by both internal mindsets and external influences. This workshop explores emerging research on mindset development, featuring insights from David Yeager’s work on fostering adaptive mindsets that help teens thrive amidst challenges. At the same time, we critically examine some of Jonathan Haidt’s arguments in The Anxious Generation. By engaging with critiques that highlight the nuances and multifaceted causes of this crisis, participants will deepen their understanding of adolescent development. The session will offer actionable strategies to create environments that inspire adolescents to build resilience, discover their strengths, and connect meaningfully in an increasingly digital world. Through a balanced examination of research and its implications, this workshop equips educators with tools to better understand and motivate the modern adolescent.
