This session will highlight the impact of letting students bring athletic lessons and values into the classroom. Furthermore, this session will discuss students outside your athletic program and their path to become future global leaders through these same connections.
The positive link between athletics and academic performance is well established. However, it is still commonplace for student athletes to hear from teachers that they need to make a choice between athletics and academics. Student athletes may hear, “you cannot get the grades you want if you play on the basketball team” or “you will not have enough time to get your homework finished with so many practices and games.” Moreover, these same student-athletes may hear from their coaches that they can do both successfully, but with some requirements: solid time management skills and realistic goal setting.
How do we bridge the gap between students, teachers and coaches?
We can better prepare our future global leaders not only by bringing athletics into the classroom, but also encouraging our students to join a team. This session will dive into student-athlete wellbeing, personal planning, content creation and time management with student-athletes. Finally, this session will explore how to get teachers, coaches, students and their families on the same page towards success now and in life, “let us refocus and rethink that challenge together.”
